REWRITE REALITY exhibition artist | Liyu Xue
60s,24h, AR Performance, 1920x1080, 2020
In this group of work, Liyu explores the alternative ways of performance making: By reconstructing the physical space with abstract and shadeless painted shapes, he reveals the restless emotions embodied within the reality and offers a radical and somewhat surreal storytelling.
The work considers the embodied simulations in both reality and virtual space and creates different ideas of the bodily presence. His work attempts to expand our understanding of what image and performance making means outside of conscious thought or intentionality.
Liyu Xue is an interdisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. Using an array of media including video, performance, and photography, he explores the performative nature of the bodily presence. Liyu also invests in consciousness and mixed reality study, where he finds new perspectives and evidence to think about the mind-body connection and the embodiment. He received a master of architecture degree from Pratt Institute, where he also studied performance and photography.
