Shown are a pair of replacement hinges for the Lenovo YOGA 3 PRO (1370 80HE) laptop. They were chosen because of a personal relationship to the machine. The components were arranged and shot on medium format black and white film with a macro lens and then scanned, a process which belabors and abstracts a normally reproducible and mechanical process.

I am an artist from Newark, Delaware, US. I received a BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2016 and an MFA in Photo/Media from the University of Washington in 2019. Between 2022 and 2023 I operated an exhibition space called Paid with Nicholas Strobelt in Seattle, Washington. I currently live in Berlin, DE. Strobelt and myself continue to operate an artist print publication press called Device from our respective locations between Berlin and Oakland, California, US. My practice involves examining my relationship to production and evaluating the systems in which my efforts may exist. I’m concerned with decision making under conditions of partial information, inconsistency of affordance, and the effectual development of property within the role of artist. In my work I seek conflict with hierarchical valuations of activity and hope to cultivate sensitivity. This is embodied in my work through material engagement with writing, publishing, information technology, communications, and commerce.
